Eating at the trendiest, most popular restaurants in the city is a must (oh, hey, Alter). But every once in a while, you’ve gotta go under the radar and have incredible ramen and sake in the basement of a happening SoBe hotel. Trust us. Here are seven super-secret restaurants in Miami you never knew existed.

K RAMEN. BURGER. BEER.

A wonderful surprise awaits you below an unmarked stairway inside the Townhouse Hotel. It’s a ramen restaurant that serves a connoisseur’s burger with caramelized onions, tomato, American cheese and creamy Sriracha sauce. We’ll take ours with a side of sake, please.

MIAMI SQUEEZE

Hiding in plain sight with a neon green awning, Miami Squeeze serves the freshest smoothies and wraps around. Our go-to is the Mango Berry Delight (swap a traditional glass for a pineapple cup) and a falafel spinach wrap with a side of avo.

LETTUCE & TOMATO

Word of mouth has made this restaurant one of the most popular in North Miami. It’s hidden behind Biscayne Boulevard on a quiet side street off 170th. Though it’s known to have quite a wait, the huevos rotos—a bowl filled with crispy garlic fries, Serrano ham, two fried eggs and sofrito–are totally worth it.

COMMONWEALTH MIAMI

Ever heard of a “reverse speakeasy”? This intimate vintage restaurant may house more than 120 whiskeys, but it also has one of the tastiest farm-to-table menus in town. Don’t leave without trying the seared scallops, which are served with creamy sweet corn infused with bacon. Yes, this is what dreams are made of.

STEPHEN’S RESTAURANT

Step inside one of Miami’s oldest delicatessens, nestled in between industrial warehouses in Hialeah. You’ll find a no-frills lunch counter serving up corned-beef sandwiches and warm matzo-ball soup. (Miami Heat fans: Udonis Haslem’s grandfather is the executive chef.)
